The Dragon Boat Festival is a huge asian american celebration and one of my favorite Denver summertime events . It’s a two day festival at Sloan’s Lake in Lakewood, CO. I’ve been fortunate to have rocked with the Dragon Boat Festival’s Cultural Unity Tent every year since they introduced the tent (Shouts to Jared aka B-Boy Finesse). The tent aims to unite the youth community through hip-hop and dancing. Come check me spin some funk and b-boy breaks for the b-boys Saturday July 24th @ 1:30pm sharp.

Sunday Night Sound Sessions

Having been in radio and primarily underground hip-hop radio, I am always looking out for other shows which are on the “pulse” of quality hip-hop. Sunday Night Sound Sessions is a Hip-Hop radio show broadcast out of Seattle, WA on KUBE 93FM and hosted by DJ Hyphen and J. Moore (Co-creator of the Red Bull Big Tune). Having scoured the country for good radio,  I would have to say that this is probably my favorite hip-hop radio show on commercial radio (in my opinion). In the world of blogs and mp3s dropping left and right, they somehow seem to stay one step ahead of the curve and debut new QUALITY music every week. It’s rare to find radio shows that put in the work (and having done my stint at Basementalism, I know exactly how hard that can be).

The Sound of Young America Interviews

The Sound of Young America is a national public radio show that I’ve quickly become a fan of over the years.  While most people find NPR to be slow and dry, this show is highly recommended by me. The show is very on the pulse of media that “young america” would be into, which usually consists of musicians, comedians, writers, comic books artists, filmmakers, and other creative types.  Seriously, I love this show because they’ve interviewed everyone from Bill Withers to the cast members of MTV’s The State. Wide variety yet somehow very on point in their interview selections.

Jesse Thorn is the host and producer of the program and is quite possibly one of the best interviewers I have ever heard. I’ve interviewed numerous hip-hop artists and have read thousands of interviews. I often feel like most of it is garbage. People usually ask the typical biographical questions and  they seem more like promo pieces for whatever current project is about to be released.  Mr. Thorn does his research and always asks really insightful unique questions about the creative process.

Really this guy with a NPR show puts 95% of Hip-Hop journalists to SHAME. So with that said, here are two links to two of my favorite “hip-hop” interviews he did  (just click the links):
